1wonton
Curious about bumpers used in 1931; when did the single bar bumper change to the two piece bumper (or vids-versa)? ron
Dave39MD
My 31 66s has a body number 5323 out of 6,489 and has the single bar bumpers. Not sure about Buick but in 31 the Chevrolet customer could go either way once both were available. They were installed at the dealer. 1wonton
Thanks Dave, seems like your car is an earlier production, maybe the two-bar bumper came out later in the year.
Robert Engle
According to my parts manual, all 1930 cars had 2 bar bumpers. All 1931 and 32 had 1 bar bumpers. They are all Wolverine Brand bumpers. Bob Engle

They are all Wolverine Brand bumpers. Sure are a lot of 31 cars with 2 bar bumpers. My Buick for 1931 original sales brochure pictures all the cars with 2 bar bumpers. My 1931 8-66S is much earlier than Dave Dunton's 1931 8-66S, has 2 bar bumpers and we came to the conclusion only the later 31 cars got 1 bar bumpers. No argument on 32's they did all have 1 bar bumpers.
JayG
Early 31’s had 2 bar. Later 31’s transitioned to singles. Not sure what chassis number is the cutover.
Dave39MD
The 31 dealer book shows two illustrations of the single bar bumper( 96C and 56C). The only catch that muddies the water on this is the book describes the second version of the 50 series with Syncro-Mesh transmission and enclosed drive shaft. I am not sure when the 50 series change took place. Dave
1wonton
My '31 model 8-94 has a chassis number 2530053, eng number 2708593 which would seem to indicate a car built later in the year. Tha car has single bar bumpers, front and rear.
