28 Chrysler
Is some type of mechanical gauge or maybe air pump ? Edited April 15, 2022 by 28 Chrysler (see edit history)
JACK M
Is that an "F" at the top? My guess would be a fuel gauge.
nickelroadster
It could be an oil gauge too.

28 Chrysler
Full at the lowest point and empty all the raised seams backward. The two 1/8" pipe connections at the bottom, a leather seal inside the tube then a packing nut. Th smallest tub has a vent hole just above the packing nut. More fluid the lower the number showing and no spring for a vacuum gauge.
TerryB
I was thinking it was a gauge that showed the fluid level by comparing height of the main storage vessel to the height of the fluid in the measurement tube. Looking closer it seems the length of your gauge is too long for a simple oil pan reference device. Maybe you are to pull the marking end out of the tube to see where the wet line is on the numbered reference? Seems like it might be more designed for use ona vertical standing tank of some kind. 28 Chrysler
Here it is unassembled, about a 2" travel. I am wondering if the "F" stands for "FILL" and the numbers are for Quarts, Gallons, or Liters to fill.
Larry Schramm
With the leather cup at the end of the rod, I would think that it is some type of pump. It would draw fluid from the larger attached pipe that has the right angle orifice. Pull up on the stick and remove fluid. Opposite of a bicycle pump. dustycrusty
It looks like a gauge for measuring the oil level in a model "T", screwed into the bottom petcock hole on the transmission and poking up thru the running board splash apron near the firewall on the passenger side (LHD). dustycrusty
The gauge SEEMS to be reading backwards, unless you interpret it this way... 0 = 0 quarts low. You don't need to add any oil. 1= 1 quart low, just top it off with whatever you have under the seat. 2= 2 quarts low. Uh-oh. You've got a "small" leak. Start carrying a couple of fruit jars full of oil with you when you go out. 3= 3 quarts low? Nice maintenance schedule! Are you pals with Daddy Warbucks or Jay Gatsby that you can spare an extra $50.oo for a complete engine and transmission rebuild? Maybe next time you wont listen when your passengers tell you to just straddle those stumps or boulders. Even "vanadium steel" has its limits... F= You're F***ed.
