1921 Light Six 5 Passenger Touring. Two piece windshield, lack of cowl lights and no cowl vent give it away. It also has the smaller wrist pin on that piston which makes it an early 1921 😉

Car is Light Six model EH that was made between 1919 and 1921 with only a few minor changes during those years. It was the first Studebaker to be built and assembled in South Bend and the first to have bodies built in the new body plant (building 84 that still stands). Prior to that all Studebaker cars had been built in Detroit. Another phot attached. Have many more photos plus complete specs etc.

Richard,

I beg to differ. The car you have pictured is a Light Six EJ Model and not a Light Six Model EH. The Light Six EH was discontinued after 1919 and replaced by the very different Light Six EJ Model which was first produced in mid-1920 and ran through 1922 until replaced by the Light Six EM. The EH Model continued as the Special Six EH from 1920 -1921 until it was replaced by the Special Six EL in 1922. Given the limited production numbers of the Light Six EJ in 1920, this is most likely a 1921, although I can't totally rule out it being a 1920. 1920 and 1921 cars were practically the same so the particular year doesn't matter but it is definitely a pre-1922 Light Six Model EJ.

Pictures of a 1919 Light Six Model EH

Although not real apparent here are the visual differences with the 1920-1922 Light Six EJ:

  • Only 10 louvers on the hood panels vs 11 on the EJ
  • No external door handles vs external handles on EJ
  • Below the doors is a rounded metal closeout panel vs the EJ that shows the painted frame rail. The front of the rear spring shackle is oiled through a hole in this side panel closeout vs a hole in the running board on the EJ
  • Different radiator shapes
  • Rivets on rear wheels are different
  • Hinge line on the hood is a bit lower vs the EJ
  • Angled upright for rear of top vs vertical on EJ
  • Although you can't see it in the original photo, the engines are very different and the oil pan, flywheel cover in the photo is off an EJ
