Michael Morton
I have rubber valve stems on my Model A ,will it hurt me bad to leave them or should I change to the metal ones? The car is almost totally original ,some repaint touch ups.
MCHinson
Change to the correct valve stems and caps if you wish to enter the car in AACA Judging. Each rubber valve stem will cost you one point. Each rubber valve stem cap will cost you one point. If you have 5 or 6 tires, you are looking at giving away 10 or 12 points in AACA judging with incorrect valve stems and caps.
61polara
AACA HPOF judging uses the same standards as Class Judging except for deductions for condition, unless the part is no longer useable due to condition. Valve stems are replaceable items, but should be of the correct original style. The point system is different in HPOF from Class Judging. Incorrect valve stems would be a one point deduction. For your age car, nine deductions would be the maximum deductions to receive the HPOF award and four deductions for the HPOF Original. A sample HPOF judging form is in the Judges Guidelines, which can be downloaded from the AACA Home page under Publications.
