On_An_Island
Hi all. First time poster here. I'm doing genealogy on my family and have a photo showing the trunk of an auto. Just as a lark I decided to ID the car. That hasn't gone so well and now it's reached the point that I'm turning to the experts. About all I can tell you is what you see in the image. A 1938 Texas plate, single rear window, and what is that center-mounted vertical bumper piece? Would the trunk even open past it? Thanks for your knowledge and assistance. viv w
Hard to read if that Texas plate is 1938 or 1939, the car is a Chevrolet of similar age
rocketraider
Going out on a limb, 1937-38 Oldsmobile by the taillights and bumper guard styling. Or at least a similar year GM product. *Edit* agree with Viv. Zoom in and you'll see the Chevrolet BowTie on the trunk handle.
On_An_Island
Thank you! Now that you point out the bowtie I see it. Before, it looked like part of a face. Still wondering about that vertical bumper rail though.
sagefinds
That center guard is there to help protect the trunklid but folds down backwards to allow access into the trunk. I don't believe they were standard equipment but an extra cost accessory.
Oldtech
The center guard is an accessory. They were spring loaded on a hinge system so flipped down to open the trunk.
DLynskey
1939 Chevrolet sedan. Can't tell if it's 2-door or 4-door. The center bumper guard was a popular after-market accessory. Don
Dave Mellor NJ
Although the plate is from 38,those tail lights mounted high on the body makes it a 39. the 38 had them on the fender
