1988 was the final year for the rear-wheel drive Cutlass Supreme. It was badged Cutlass Supreme Classic, and 27,678 were built.[5] The 2-door coupe (produced alongside the Chevrolet Monte Carlo at GM's Pontiac, Michigan plant) continued, until the new front-wheel drive version was released. The Olds 307 was the only available engine.

The RWD 1988 Cutlass Supreme Classic was Oldsmobile's attempt to use up remaining parts for these cars and to bridge the product gap due to the delays getting the FWD W-body Cutlass Supremes into production. Production of the RWD G-body cars ended in Dec 1987.  There were 15,568 of the base Coupe models made and 12,110 of the Brougham Coupe models. Among the cars produced were 400 Cutlass Supreme GT cars that used up some of the leftover styling parts from the G-body Hurst/Olds and 442 cars of prior years. All of the 1988 cars came with the VIN Y 140 HP 307.

First one I've seen on the roof sail panel. Most of them placed the emblem next to the decklid script.

The best info I've found is that the last 1000 or so 1988 RWD cars got these badges, and that info came from folks at the Olds NC sales region. Coincidentally the same folks who got the Cutlass GT produced.

The GT is an interesting story in its own right.

The OP's car has been modified (lip spoiler, exhaust tips, IROC wheels, emblems around the door locks, etc), so there's no way to know if that badge was originally stuck in that location or not. Interestingly the dealer brochure shows a "Cutlass Supreme Classic" script on the C-pillar.
