I have an earlier model TC I just inherited from my father. It has the same 6G72 Mitsubishi motor as my Eclipse, but mine is newer and thus was designed to put out significantly more power. Does anyone know if I can do a straight swap and keep the power or what I would have to do? They're both automatic transmissions and my Eclipse engine is significantly younger, coming out of an 03 GT.

Let us have some photos from various angles of the engine in the Eclipse for comparison, that way I would be more assurance to say.

Interesting idea! Especially if it has the variable intake manifold on it. Physically it should bolt up but the eclipses have their transmission on the passenger side where the TC is on the drivers side. So the eclipse 3.0 would be flipped around in a TC which you could probably make work. The throttle body would be on the opposite side and you’d need 3.0 TC exhaust manifolds. Too bad the 3.0 TC guys can’t use the eclipse transmissions. Would even pose an AWD 3.0 option. It would be a lot of work for someone to relocate all the engine and trans mounts but ppl have gone further. I’ve seen an AWD 2.4 turbo Dodge Omni.

I think the block is basically the same on most of the engines in the 6G72 family, possibly even the Stealth/3000GT engines. The issues are exhaust, computers and harnesses, all the ancillary stuff, and so on. I always thought it would be nice to drop an engine/trans combo from an SRT4 or PT Cruiser Turbo into a TC.
