Cadillac Nut
I've been stumped on this for a while and have asked in other places, no luck. Anyone recognize this? I have two, the other one has a reflector on the top. Thanks for any ideas
Walt G
Once again I will ask - please give us some measurements so that we can have an idea - diameter of openings for lens, length and width of the rim ???

Larry Schramm
Looks to be mid 1950's.
f.f.jones
Off hand, I'd say it was from a 1959 Simca Aronde sedan (not the coupe or convertible model). Might be worth 5 euros for the pair. Edited November 17, 2021 by f.f.jones (see edit history)
Roger Zimmermann
Good catch! A Simca Aronde must be an unusual car in the US! This one is good looking; the wheel covers are not the ones commonly seen in Europe.

My cousin owned one he bought new in Salisbury, Maryland. Then they all seemed to disappear. I figured they just stopped importing them to the USA, faced with the US regulations and mounting competition from other imports.
Cadillac Nut
Wow thank you, I never would have guessed that. I didn't know that Simcas were ever imported into the USA

pfloro
My brother bought a new 1967 Simca 1000 from the local NJ Chrysler dealer. He owned it for a year. It was a water cooled rear engine 4 speed "primitive" appliance. ...And I do mean primitive... That car spent a lot of time in the dealer's repair shop. It had numerous troubles. The one which I clearly remember was multiple failures of the clutch slave cylinder. I was 12 at the time and one warm summer evening my father and I drove the car to the dealer to fix something. Surprisingly, we got there without trouble. The dealer's loaner car was a blue 1961 or 1962 Belair...! As we drove home, I remember telling my father: " Wow, this is a nice smooth riding car...!" Compared to the faded red Simca, it was... Paul Edited November 19, 2021 by pfloro (see edit history)

hook
I don't remember any Simca's that I saw that had rear engines. The ones my cousin bought were from the late fifties early sixties and had front engines
Roger Zimmermann
If I'm right, the Simca 1000 was the sole to have a rear engine.

bryankazmer
I don't think Ford had ownership or control - SIMCA started from a relationship with FIAT, then bought a plant from Ford.
Roger Zimmermann
That's correct, they bought the Ford factory in 1954. This move allowed Simca to produce the "Vedette", a scale-down Mercury with a very small V-8.
