Roger Frazee Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 A friend is wanting to sell her 1989 16valve TC and has asked me to help her determine a value. The car has good paint, tops, and interior and has always been garaged. It is also mechanically sound. My question is, what is the price range of a 16v 1989 TC compared with an 8v car in similar condition? Thanks.
Turbo Kane Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 I would like to think she could reasonably get 8-10k but others have sat with little to no interest at that price point. I think color combo and mileage are big factors. Triple black are usually most desirable. Yellow/ginger being the least. Would you be able to share some pictures and location? 1
mensanguy Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 (edited) i sold my 89 yellow/ginger 16v this year w/70k miles in perfect, garaged condition for $5600 Edited November 10, 2021 by mensanguy added 16v (see edit history) 1
Nile Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Since the supply of nice 8v cars is much higher, they usually do not bring the $ a 16v car in comparable condition would bring, and while the 16v cars offer a substantial performance advantage, that is offset by the presence of the ultimate millenial theft deterrent (5 speed stick). Looking at the big picture - November is not a good time to sell a special interest vehicle, especially a convertible. Looking at just TC's, some specific factors - the brake system, oil leaks, leather on the seat side bolsters & top of the instrument binnacle and how long the odometer has been inoperative exert a disproportionate effect on value. Mensanguy's TC was in spectacular condition so I doubt anything other than a documented low mileage car in perfect condition will beat that amount. I realize there are quite a few TC's for sale now (check out the recent club newsletter), but remember asking prices and actual sale prices are usually very different. 1
mensanguy Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 Here's a comp that is on ebay right now 1989 16v https://www.ebay.com/itm/185160391031?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m43.l3160&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=91e063d4579d4c9a83794b336a8540bb&bu=43205158169&ut=RU&exe=99322&ext=234173&osub=-1~1&crd=20211113055652&segname=11021&sojTags=ch%3Dch%2Cbu%3Dbu%2Cut%3Dut%2Cnqt%3Dnqt%2Cnqc%3Dnqc%2Cmdbreftime%3Dmdbreftime%2Ces%3Des%2Cec%3Dec%2Cexe%3Dexe%2Cext%3Dext%2Cexe%3Dexe%2Cext%3Dext%2Cosub%3Dosub%2Ccrd%3Dcrd%2Csegname%3Dsegname%2Cchnl%3Dmkcid 1
Roger Frazee Posted November 14, 2021 Author Posted November 14, 2021 Thanks to all for your help. Here are some pictures of the car. 1
Hemi Dude Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 That is a great looking car, may I recommend that you acquire a new replacement Accumulator for your TC. You have what appears to be an original 32 year old one on the car at this time. 2
mensanguy Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 FYI the car on E bay I previously mentioned sold for $4353.
Turbo Kane Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I also have the same build 1 of 23 produced 1989 16V/5 Speed/Royal Cabernet/Ginger/Tan. I think it’s a handsome looking car. 1
