Guest
Two door sedan rather than a hardtop, no engine or transmission but still a solid platform to build on. Color change from Candlelight Cream (yellow) to Black. I think this one makes the car alsancle listed look like a bargain at $25,750. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/d/albuquerque-1966-gto-solid-builder/7391713929.html real 242 vin with phs documentation, (was 389 4-speed) solid floors and trunk pan, body is straight, no engine or transmission, front seat gone. asking $21500.00 obo no trades. calls only 505- five 5 4- five 3 8 1 Edited October 9, 2021 by GregLaR (see edit history)
TexRiv_63
No drive train or interior for $21,500 - absolutely ridiculous.
Gearheadengineer
This is why I tend to gravitate toward less popular cars. Over $20k for a “builder”???? Yikes. I like ‘66 GTOs and have a strong nostalgic draw to them, but I have a stronger “frugal” nature. (I use quotes because my wife prefers to use “cheap bastard” over “frugal.”) Personally, I think a ‘65 or ‘66 Ford Galaxie is better looking. Thankfully most people disagree, which allowed me to pick up my Galaxie ragtop for 10% of this asking price. 2

And it doesn't help when you're old enough to have seen cars like this go for 600 bucks or less back when they were 10 years old. At least that describes my perspective. But yes, the GTO's were beautifully styled...maybe the best looking mid-sized American car of '66 and '67...and there were many great contenders vying for that title: Edited October 10, 2021 by JamesR (see edit history)
Ed Luddy
Yes it hurts too see what some of my old junk would bring now. But I never had the cash or the foresight to buy, store and hold til 2020

TAKerry
Looks to be a really nice car. Solid body and floors are about 90% of the equation. Finding a motor is fairly easy, lots of guys doing LS swaps, drop a 400 in there and you have something. BUT that devalues the final product quite a bit. IMO asking is about 30%-50% too high. Guest
I agree Terry. I think this car is worth $10-12K as it sits but I'm sure it will bring more. The missing drive train is one thing but even with the seller's lack of interior photos, I can see missing front seats and door panels. So who knows what else one will need to track down. Also, it's a sedan which isn't quite as nice as the hardtop. Greg
