lhend50
I am working on my 1940 Buick Roadmaster sport coupe. I have removed the motor, trans and torque ball assembly. Trans has a bad gear, and torque ball assembly leaks like a sieve. I ordered a seal kit from CARS, and it is not even close to fitting. I am now wondering if the trans had been replaced at some point. My motor number lines up correctly for 1940. Transmission case number is 1312582-1. Is this the proper case number for a 1940 roadmaster Transmission. If not, it might explain the torque ball issue as well. Thanks
kgreen
Contact Northwest Transmission (http://www.nwtparts.com/). They will ask for your part number and send the appropriate rebuilt/reseal kit. They may even be able to tell you what you have based on the number. Then, you may either keep that trans or find the appropriate year trans if that is your level of authenticity. lhend50
Thanks, I just spoke to Glenn at CARS, it looks like someone put a later model torque ball assembly on the car. It looks like a dynaflow torque ball assembly on a manual transmission. In a previous thread it said that that number could be found on some later yrs, but it was not clear if it also could have been used in 1940. Everything on the car is original, however, I will never show the car, not my thing, so I don't car if trans is from another year, just need a good one.
