Victor W
I need some advice on removing the steering wheel from my '40 Special. I need to gain access to turn signal switch and am trying to get my wheel off, but it won't budge. The big nut on the steering shaft came off without issue, but the wheel won't come free. I've been soaking with penetrating oil and have even left my puller tensioner on it hoping it might pop it free overnight. No such luck. My normal inclination would be to throw some heat on it, but am leery I'll damage the horn wire or something else. Any suggestions?
jenz38
If its so tight then you.must pull the Horn Contact out of the steering shaft. Important then is, to let the Nut on the shaft for safety if the wheel comes of. Take the puller onto it with maximum power without damaging the top of the hollow shaft and Thread, then hit with a hammer onto the end of the Puller bolt. Normally the Wheel should comes loose with a loud bang, that's why the Nut must stay on the upper end of the Shaft thread. Good Luck
Victor W
Yup, that worked! Three whacks from the brass mallet and bingo. I'm a little embarrassed I didn't think to try that. Thanks for suggesting it 2
