TerryB
I wonder how much “go” the 4 cylinder Go Devil engine creates. Nice car.
plymouthcranbrook
A friend has a 57 Dispatcher two wheel drive model with the stock four banger. And the answer is, not much. And I suspect that the Dispatcher is quite a bit lighter than the Jeepster.
zeke01
I owned a 1948 Jeepster four cylinder for many years. As far as power goes, it’s faster than a Model A but slower than a ‘65 Mustang six cylinder. The overdrive is essential. Zeke
sunnybaba
It is a good thing that it has so little power, and does not go very fast.. because it has those small 9" brake drums.. and has very poor braking ability..... A slower pace of life .... back in the late 40's..... no hurries & no worries... we just ended the long war and the men were back home again,,, heading into the 50's..... LIFE was GOOD back then....
58L-Y8
The "Go-Devil" 134 ci L-Head four cylinder began life in the Willys Whippet in the later 1920's. It wasn't a great engine then but soldiered on through the Willys 77, 38, 48, and Americar. The major re-engineering came for 1937 by 'Barney' Roos who corrected the deficiencies inherent in the initial iteration. Designed for low speed durability and economy in the Willys cars, it also became the ideal engine for its greatest role in the WWII Jeep.
jimkf
Two batteries? The add-on turn signals ruin the front end's aesthetics in my opinion. I've owned a couple of these, both 6 cylinder cars, and even with the two extra cylinders, you move along at a leisurely pace at best.
