The trouble we go to to keep the screw police off our backs. (Ron and Doug!! ) Not to mention any names.

Sand blasted and Nickle plated all the old screws ready for assembly of the door catches and locks.

She actually moved under her own steam for the first time in 42 years last Saturday. That was a huge milestone for grant in his restoration. It was pretty bloody exciting for me too  ECA25928-AA09-45AC-814F-482074C518BC.jpeg.9e6db105d8a7ec52fb12b65ffa182fb0.jpeg

We took the 24 dodge Ute for a drive today. It went faultlessly and it was the first time grant has driven it. Was a great day being that he has waited 42 years to drive it. 87037445-D380-459A-A232-B39741A682FF.jpeg.eeaf8652f2b7bda08039b6ce734b266f.jpegBringing her out of the shed.

I will get onto the rear guards this week so we can get them on. Also need to Nickle plate the windscreen.

We have made some good progress on Grants beautiful old 24 dodge Ute. Getting close to the upholstery stage.

I have purposely lowered the quality of the picture so the “bloody screw police” don’t pic up on the Phillips screws in the led taillights until we get them changed. 🫣

Great work as always.

Curious how the logo was engraved and how many damn coats of varnish is that!? Wow, stunning wood finish (for oak especially).

Dave

Thanks Dave.
Grant and his son did all the timber work and I just painted it. They had the logo done with a CNC router. I did say when he turned up with it I could of knocked that out with a hammer and chisel before smoko. NOT!! Haha. It looks great doesn’t it.
The oak has between 12-15 coats of glaserit 2pak clear on it, About 8 litres. I kinda lost count towards the end there, and we gave it a really light stain just to get the grain to stand out.
It’s been a great fun restoration this one as grant comes up as much as he can and helps out. Jude and my Saturday’s have been very entertaining for the last six months. We have pretty long lunches and smoko’s listening to grant’s stories. Rich was up yesterday but was a bit disappointed when he found out Jude hadn’t made him any brownies. 😂🤣
It’s really great how much fun these old cars can create.

The engine is looking good though.

Dremel has a CNC router now?

Damn, how long was I asleep... ;)

Glasurit clear laquer 923-35?
That makes sense now. So your recoat was every hour or so I presume? Less with high temps of course
I thought you may have used varnish. Was thinking that can't be because of the brutal turnaround time for recoat.
Very nice job.

Sounds like you're all having a blast working on it. It really is cool how much fun these old cars (and trucks) create.
Love the Ute, can't wait to see the final product.

I generally do 3 wet on wet coats and leave it dry for a couple of days and then on the final coat I like to leave it for about 2 weeks before I put just 2 wet on wet coats at about 30% reducer.
I’ve just done my wife’s new kitchen tops in it. They have come up pretty nice to. We got them in European oak. Which looks pretty much the same as American oak.

How does your wife keep you so busy? I have good intentions BUT.  OH, and the small cars in the backround are a '74 Citicar, I've already gone electric. And the front fenders to my '67 Camaro and a red '57 Corvette. I need about another 75 years to get them all done.

We settle on our new property today so the next few months will be pretty busy for us. We have a bit of renovating to do and then move my workshop and set it all back up. So working on the old girls will take a step back for a little bit.
