Guest John Chapman
See Attachment!A new program initiated by the USN to test aircraft carrier catapults... Note, 'deadload' catapult shot appears to be using a Ford product... Number of terrorists on this ultimate 'E' Coupon ride is unknown....

Guest Reatta1
John! I love it! A friend of mine e-mailed it to me a couple days ago. I'm glad you were able to put it on here. I didn't know how to. The car kinda looks like an old Falcon. Thoughts on that anyone? Smartin
That must've been a popular email, because I got it a few days ago also...very funny
Bill Stoneberg
Seriously,If one of those Steam powered Catapults can take a Jet, that weighes much more then most cars, from 0 - flight speed in 1.5 seconds, imagine how fast that Falcon must be going. I wonder if it slowed by the aerodynamics of the Falcons shape though ?Pushing the air that that square little boxy thing pushes might limit its top speed.Good picture though... Guest John Chapman
Bill, Catapult "end speed" is pre-calculated based on weight of the "victim(s)", and can shoot a 37 ton aircraft off the end at 160 KTS (184 MPH) in just over 300 feet. Fun ride. The 'Falcon', regardless of coefficent of drag, locked brakes, 27 terrorists in the trunk, and/or 35 knots of wind over the bow will leave the flight deck at about 120 KTS... Locked brakes will not slow you down a bit, it only creates great clouds of white tire smoke, two impressive black streaks down the deck, two flat main mounts and results in significant ribbing from one's fellow flyers... a fact that I can attest to from personal experience.By the way, for trivia buffs, the carrier in the picture is the USS Enterprise (CVN 65). Judging from the deck equipment and the style of the flight deck number on the bow, I'd say the photo was taken in the late 1970's.JMC
Dave@Moon
That Falcon looks exactly like my 1960 pale blue wonder that I had in grad school. Aerodynamics? Forget it! I was in a head wind once (40 mph sustained) where the car's top speed, floored for half an hour, was 50 mph! Oncoming trucks on two lane highways noticably slowed the car as much as 5 mph at times. Guest my3buicks
John, I liked your original post before you changed it. It made the post a whole lot more effective. Guess you must be trying to be politically correct.

Guest Reatta1
Been thinking about the flight charachteristics of that Falcon. Obviously not doing that great. Wonder if a ChryCo Eagle would have done better?. Maybe a Studebaker Hawk? How about a Buick Skylark? OHHH!!! SPANK ME, that's blasphemey!!!
