So Larry. 341 is that day of the year? And 89 is the year. Did Delco do this on a lot of parts?

GM and most part manufacturers put date codes on all of their products.  That is part of the traceability of parts incase there is a defect in a part and there needs to be a recall.  It is the same as the date codes/ best used by dates on food products.

I would have never thought that the number day of the year would have been used but it makes total sense. Learned something new today. Thanks. Dandy Dave!

The internet has scant info for Delco "Performer" series shocks.

The link is to an ebayer selling shocks close to your p/n and might be able to ID yours. 

Note Delco uses 2 separate part numbers on their box: a "550-NNN" p/n and the 8 digit p/n. (do you have your box with the "550-NNN" #?).
