Minibago
I stand corrected Mark, you are quite right, my belief was through experience with current cars on the road here in OZ, my 1917 has 25 inch wheels with steel felloes so I can only think that as these cars have been restored, steel rims from later cars (or perhaps other brands) have replaced the timber felloe originally fitted. We do more here than just “roll down the road straight” so I guess I for one am damned. 😂😂😂 4

cutdown
Just saw this comment form Mattml. No horn at all on this one yet Doug. I swapped the leads over and no fuse blowing now but I’m not sure yet if it’s charging I haven’t checked. Couldn’t find any trace of a number. When we used to overhaul the old generators, we were always supposed to motorize them in the polarity of the car. If it was originally polarized to positive earth, then connected to negative earth, you would expect a problem. I did read somewhere that if you were to run the car without a battery, you needed to remove the fuse in the generator. I also squeezed my finger one day and it went red then black then the nail came of. I don't remember it hurting either. I also searched high and low for the chassis number on my 23 car as well, and found it lower down on the outside of the RH chassis rail just behind the rear spring hanger for the front suspension. it certainly wasn't under the seat, nor on the l/h rail as I saw on a picture of a Dodge truck on this forum. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Happy new year. Edited January 14, 2022 by cutdown (see edit history)
Mark Gregush
I saw a post on Fordbarn.com in the Model A section, of a group of people doing a mud run with their Model A's in England. Some posters were caterwauling about them treating their cars that way, it was a sacrilege against all car people! Me, I posted that it look like great fun and the people were having a good time and some people needed to lighten up.
MikeC5
I know I've read somewhere that the Northeast Starter-Generators do not need to be polarized (I rebuilt mine and didn't) and yes, you should pull the fuse if your running engine with no battery in the circuit.
Mark Gregush
I have seen that also, but if you look at the wiring diagram, there are differences in how the cutout/starter switch wiring is configured between - & + ground. Not sure how much that matter, I spaced out and hooked my 20 up backwards, the ampere meter still showed a charge only on the negative side. Changed it back and charged the correct way without flashing.
Minibago
Matt, regarding your bonnet clamps I have two types. These look like they are new but not Dodge. These might be DB (maybe a later version) but not the same as yours. I don’t have the plates that go on the bonnet.
nearchoclatetown
The bottom ones are DB.
Mattml430
Thanks Nigal. They are a little bit different again to what I have. If I can’t get these other ones I’ll grab the set of 4 bottom ones. Thanks mate.
Mattml430
We have made an executive decision and decided to strip the paint off the wooden spokes and stain them. It should really set the look of the car of nicely. I can’t wait to see them back on. Just waiting on some gold base coat to turn up next week. Mattml430
Managed to get the wheels finished and back on today. It’s changed the whole look of the car I’m so glad we’ve done it.
Mattml430
Just finishing of the wind wings Nigal supplied us also. They were a great casting and I have machined them up, polished and Nickle plated them. I have to drop the glass template of tomorrow and then I can fit them on.
Minibago
Great job Matt they really set it off. The wind protection is very pronounced compared to a car without them. On the subject of painting or varnishing the wheels, yes painted is period correct but the varnish really sets the car off. Well done.

Well done. Thanks Nigal I stuck my first attempt at bevelling wind wings in just to check for size. The ones I’m getting cut will have rounded corners.

Minibago
Nice Job Matt, Now all you need is a footrest to go with your robe rail. It folds back to the base of the seat and folds out when you need it.

Minibago
Pretty sure it is not genuine DB Sorry I don’t have pictures of it on the car Doug. The mount on each side when tightened holds the screen vertical. The screen is fitted with perspex currently. it folds up neat. Just something extra to make it stand out.

nearchoclatetown
Matt, there's no problem here with screws as this was probably installed after 1932 so Phillips are OK. It's the yahoos that " restore" cars before '32 that use them.
