(craigslist.org) Very scarce, rare, beautifully restored showroom quality Studebaker. Likely the only "1942" Studebaker in Colorado, very few were made in 1942 after the December 7th, 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor. Note the pictures. All manuals and extras are in the immaculate trunk including the "Studebaker" embossed fender pad. Radio and turn signals work. The 24,000 miles on speedometer may be the original miles on this wonderful automobile. View by appointment at Museum of the Mt. |West in Montrose. The 55er
I guess everyone has a different opinion of what's actually rare, scarce, etc. but my figures show that approximately 5,044 of these Custom 4-door Cruising Sedans were made in 1942.
edinmass
Rare is no where near 5k of production.
58L-Y8
The Studebaker Champion, being the lowest-priced model line, returned 29,678 1942 sales in that wartime curtailed production year. For comparison, 17,500 Commanders and 3,500 President were produced. As the most economical car, these were largely used up during the war years when mpg and light tire wear became critical. Postwar, they were generally driven into the ground like any throw-away cheap car. Like the Willys 38, 48 and Americar, the coupes and two door sedans were consumed as drag cars. So, not terribly rare new, but a low survival rate now.
Zimm63
My Mother bought a 41 Champion in the fall of 1940. She owned it for 10 years and spoke of it often. As previously said, almost all of them were used up decades ago.
