I am going to look at a Model 81 Pierce. I have seen some references to the Model 80 and 81 on this forum . Can some of the very knowledgeable tell me the good, bad ,and ugly of these cars and what is important to look for. Ideally I would like to have the larger model Pierce but there are some budget limitations.

Thank you

The quality build on 80 and 81 models is hard to beat, one of the finest cars available during the period. They are not fast cars, figure 45 mph, but will do all day long in comfort.  If you want a freeway 70 mph car, it won’t happen.  There are a few well known weaknesses, such as rocker arm assemblies, but new replacements available.  Overall great cars…

Series 80 & 81 cars for me have one shortcoming..........size. Chassis length on them for me makes them in most body styles too cramped to drive for long periods of time. Want to know how drivable a car is? Look at the price. It a direct relationship from money to performance......read that as speed, comfort, ease of finding parts. There are many obscure series of cars that are good performers......but being able to find, fix, and deal with cars that there is little scholarship available, they end up too much work for most people.

Thank you both for the input.

Ideally I would like to find an unfinished open car.

Ed I can almost fix anything, broken hearts I haven't mastered yet. (Learned that raising daughters)😉
