DFeeney
Hello, I am starting a new project and looking for a complete late 30's/40's Chrysler engine/trans in rebuild able condition. I would consider a car beyond salvage. I plan to be at fall Hershey. I say ! John Loney
I have an overdrive transmission which was taken out of a 1939 Chrysler New Yorker. Unfortunately, with the boarder closed down it would be expensive to ship from Canada. I’m about an hour and a half from Detroit.
hrb
Hi John, How much are you talking on the trans and how is it engaged( cable or electric? Harry 973 202 9250
John Loney
The ‘39 overdrive transmission had a cable connected to a knob (bottom left side of the steering column/dash) and an electric kick down system where the throttle (WOT) would depress a switch in the throttle linkage. This was connected to a solenoid on the side of the transmission which would disengage the overdrive feature to allow for passing or climbing hills. In fact, Chrysler called this transmission the “Cruise and Climb”.
