The Wandering White Thread - A Custom 1915 Rare White Finds A Good Home In Florida

The California top is a redeeming feature of the car, a fabulous find...though my thought is that the people in the video were missing some knowledge of how it worked...nevertheless a fabulous find.  I’ve offered free storage to Ed, with usufruct, we’ll see if that works!  I have a guy who’s great on getting the inscrutable going down the road again, if that helps!  Finding people who can unscrew the inscrutable is rare these days....

The top is fixed - it does not move.

All videos were taken by me.

Like the California top with beveled glass sliding windows!

Bob

Ken replaced one of the windows on the passenger side and it is hard to tell which one - he had a helluva time having the glass beveled and round along the edge to match.

Been there, done that. Had to send a wind wing to South America to get the special process done, that is not allowed in the states.......I have no clue what chemical they were using.

I realize that, I meant the operation of the side windows.  Glad you called the correct new owner!

The Pan Am Pilot In Wisconsin

When is the last time “ Pan Am “ was brought up in a discussion that you were part of ?

The next owner Ken Gunderson of Wisconsin was made aware of the White by his father “ Billy “.

After Herb Bubeck drove the White from

Prescott, Arizona to Atlanta, Georgia prior to February of 1974 - he never closed the title.

Ken surrendered the Arizona title but didn’t take a copy of it when he received a Wisconsin title in 1986.

Ken isn’t sure exactly when he bought the

White - but it had to be before August of 1986.

Ken was a pilot for Pan Am and flew around the world.

  • 3 months later...

So ….

Today I picked up the 1917 White in

Long Lake, Minnesota and got to

visit with Gene & Jim 👍

Jim asked permission from Gene

for me to get a tour of a private

collection - I left the 🎥 in the

truck.

The 1917 White is on it’s way to

the best caretaker that Ken

could possibly hope for 🍀

I believe Gene had his own restoration

shop before coming to manage the

private collection housed where I

picked up the White.

Jim is here on the forum and posts

on occasion - he has several notable

cars in largely original condition.

Minnesota folks are above average

in the friendly department 🙂

I keep looking at that picture of the beautiful blue White! To me, it looks like one of the most perfect nickel era cars I could imagine! Nice large size. Nearly perfect lines. Unusual, powerful, probably fast enough for two wheel brakes to need to be careful of! I suspect it will be a great tour car once properly sorted.

Wayne 👋

A lot has to do with the lighting.

When I first saw the White - it was bright

daylight at Skip’s Restorations in

New Salem, PA and it really didn’t

seem to stand out.

For various reasons - it has grown on me.

Ken Gunderson is one reason.

Skip Seaton is another.

But - the White is a SURVIVOR.

I believe it has been in relatively

good running order in the care

of a remarkable group of owners

since 1925.

This is a still image from the video

I shot inside of my trailer:

This White - to me - demonstrates that

you can have a 100 plus year old vehicle

with original paint and have a Stunner 👍

Jim is ahead of schedule, and will be dropping off the car Monday morning early. Maybe Phil or Jim will post a few photos of the drop off.

That’s Phil........”With hands like George the Animal Steel!” It’s gonna be Phil’s baby for a few months. Soon to be seen on a HCCA tour.

As the Brits would say, that's a smart looking car! I think the combination of the canted windshield with "California" top and thin rear pillar with invisible doors make this really striking. Who is the carrosserie? Other than the mechanical attributes can we get schooled on the design?
