Why different trunks ?

I suspect it was a dress-up option for the

1959 Plymouths.


For Imperials, more expensive cars in the

Chrysler Corporation line, I know it was a 

dress-up option.  Some had them, some did not.


Note that, for Plymouths, the spare-tire motif was

added onto the regular trunk, as your picture

indicates.  For the Imperial (at least for my 1961),

it was actually molded into the trunk's sheet metal.

Therefore, there were two different types of 

trunk lids for the Imperial.
