Recommended Posts

Spotted this chassis on a facebook site here in nz, its an early packard maybe 2 ton size? model E ?

trying to track down the farm its on,

i have an engine and radiator for this but theres obviously a lot more parts needed for it to be a worthwhile project, like a transmission, diff head etc, a bit of a challenge!!  Thought id share a picture,

Mike,

I have Packard truck transmission,it's the type that mounted several feet back from the engine and shifted by rods. The input shaft is broke off and some of the gears would need replacing but they are there for patterns. The top cover is about 1/8" plate and has packard stamped into it. If you are interested and have contacts at Chickasha I can take it down there next month. $225 delivered there.

Had a bit of progress recently with the packard, ive tracked down the original engine which was sold to a museum some 20 plus years ago

unfortunately the engine has been striped of most its bolt on components like manifolds, valve covers, fan assembly, waterpump, etc but it is the original engine so im trying to purchase it, i do have a complete engine so thats one big part covered!

ive also i/d the packard truck as a model D 4 ton size, model D were only made for 1 year (1915-16) and had a 3 speed trans instead of a 4 speed used in the more common model E of the similar size 3 or 4 ton truck

another feature for the model D is the gearchange was mounted to the outside of the frame whereas model E’s had the gearstick behind the engine in the more conventional position, pictures of the engine below

i now need to find the correct 3 speed trans, im going to need a lot more luck to pull that off i reckon, but you never know? whats in peoples sheds?
