48 Lin v12 Carburetor Vacuum Line.?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to make a new copper line from the carburetor to the Distributer. I noticed the end of the line is not flared so I am guessing it has something to do with the conectors that are used . I tried to buy two of them but the part store never had any.  Do they have a special name forthem and were can I buy them

That fitting is called a threaded sleeve."nut". If it's like the late '40s Fords it is 3/16" for 3/16" copper vacuum line. The old Weatherhead number for that 3/16" nut is 6100x3. The local NAPA store had them in stock as they have been around for years. They still use the old Weaherhead number for the the later Eaton fittings. The principal of the threaded sleeve is when the nut is tightened into the female thread, the tapered part of the nut at the end compresses on the tubing for a seal.

They are also available from Dennis Carpenter and many other Ford parts suppliers. The line is not copper, it is copper plated steel. Boose Herrel sells the bent line with the fittings.

One small note--- If you plan on keeping this car and perhaps other Lincoln , Mercs and Fords; invest in a good set of "flare "  wrenches; that is if you have not already.  With all of the different   nuts on different lines these wrenches do a good job.   --- Larry

Larry,

Once the shut down is over I will head out to buy some. I find that when trying to get nuts off a car that has been sitting for 20 yrs with a opened wrench has a habit of damaging the head.

Thanks for the tip.
