1930 Willys 8-80 Deluxe Sedan

Listed on behalf of the estate of the owner.
Located near PORTLAND, OREGON.

This 1930 Willys 8-80 Deluxe Sedan was sold new in Butte, Montana, where it lived for the next 61 years. It was used sparingly, mechanically maintained and never restored. In 1991 it was acquired by the current owner in Washington state, who continued to preserve the originality of the car while touring it around the west for events hosted by the Historic Automobile Club of Oregon and Willys-Overland-Knight Club tours as far south as California. Following his passing in 2015, the car remained in the care of his wife and it is only due to her recent passing that it is now being offered for sale.
Today it shows just 43,400 miles on the odometer, which are believed to be correct.

This Willys is in largely original condition throughout. It's a great body design. 120" wheelbase. Low-slung and sporty for the era. Body is straight and accident-free. Being a dry Montana car for the majority of its life, the body wood is solid with no flex or sag. Doors hang properly and close easily and securely. Paint appears to be 95% original with "Chancellor Maroon" body accented by black fenders and beltline with gold pinstriping. Only a few touch-ups are noted. For 91 year-old paint, it is in remarkably good condition. Original fabric top insert is in very good condition with no tears or damage noted. Chrome plating is original and shows its age, but presents well.

The wool interior fabric is completely original with the exception of the lower front seat cushion which was reupholsted at some time in the past. Original upholstery shows wear and some moth damage in spots, but is presentable. Headliner and door panels are clean and original. Front rubber floor mat is excellent. Glass is excellent throughout with no discoloration or damage. Windows roll up and down easily. Windshield cranks out for added ventillation. Wind wings on the front doors are in very good condition.

PLEASE SEE PHOTOS WHICH WERE JUST TAKEN FOR THIS LISTING AND SHOW CURRENT CONDITION.

Mechanically, this Willys appears to be very good and confirms the low original mileage. 245 cubic inch L-Head straight 8 rated at 80 horsepower (twice the horsepower of a Ford Model A) and was advertised by Willys as a 70 MPH car. After having sat for several years it was recently refreshed with new fuel, vacuum tank serviced, distributor serviced, spark plugs cleaned and gapped, carburetor serviced, oil change, radiator flush and fill, and new 6 volt battery. Pulling up on the unique "Fingertip Control" knob in the center of the steering wheel activates the starter. It starts easily and runs smoothly with good power. I have personally driven this car and it performs well. 3-speed manual transmission shifts crisply. All instruments work with exception of the gas and temperature gauges. The 6 wire wheels wear newer Goodyear tires that are in very good condition. Excellent, tight steering that holds the road well. 4-wheel Bendix mechanical brakes stop adequetely but could likely use service. The electrical wiring is original and it is noted that the headlights and tail light do not work at present. Overall I would recommend a full mechanical check and service of all components in this car before extended use. Comes with accessory trunk, some original tools, jack, owner's manual and service chart, along with photos and original brochure and documents from the previous owner. A nice package.
