kingrudy
I love this car. If I were in the market for another car I would be all over this like a cheap suit. Nice tri color paint and just the right amount of doors.
JRHaelig
One of my favorites, too. They got bashed pretty harshly on Barnfinds a week or so ago. '55's got the brunt of it, but '56's weren't immune. Jamming gear selector and overall reliability. These were period complaints, so if you think about it, the bad cars likely died young leaving the best for us to enjoy now. JamesR
In my opinion, that's what a classy car from the 1950's looks like. I also love it! 😉

It can tell us what problem areas--or problem cars--to watch out for.
58L-Y8
The problems of the V8 Packards are all well known in Packard circles. Repair methods and components have been developed to deal with and correct those problems to make the cars as reliable as they should have been from the start. 1
JRHaelig
Here's the link to that Barnfinds article https://barnfinds.com/two-owner-beauty-1956-packard-400/ Between modern repairs and survival of the fittest, a normal round of due diligence should net the quality car one would hope for. Hudsy Wudsy
A very distinctive and striking color. I Googled it. It's actually called "sardonyx" and it's a variety of banded onyx. The color sort of strikes me as mauve meets brown. Edited March 21, 2021 by Hudsy Wudsy (see edit history)
franklinman
So, would a late straight-8 ( say ‘52-54) be a better choice from the standpoint of reliability and ease of maintenance?
