This $19K DeSoto is attractive from the outside but that monotone gray vinyl upholstery is a big turn-off for me. Seller walked into the upholstery shop and asked "Give me your best bottom-line cheapest price on a new interior!" and that's what he got. Ugh! Originally these Fireflites were much prettier inside. Replace what's left of the gas & brake pedal pads too.

The sellers choice of taking pictures in the snow doesn't show the car at its best.  You already have light, muted exterior colors and the interior is bland and the background doesn't help either. Those pictures don't make me want to contact the seller and buy it especially at 19 grand!

Some sellers forget that they are trying to persuade a prospective buyer to contact them.  The ad that is placed in any medium is the first line in the sale; it's like a brochure.  So when you embark on the sale of your car make an effort to show it in the best light.

Omitting an issue from your ad is one thing -straight lying about is another thing!!

Definitely needs whitewalls. To the seller's credit though, he states the correct engine size, he doesn't overhype the car by saying how RARE! it is, he doesn't understate the production figures, and he doesn't tell you how much attention (thumbs-ups!) he gets when he's driving it. But I think it's priced a little high at 19K. I don't care for the outside rear-view mirror, but that's a minor thing.

I agree totally, 55er.  If I had that car, a new correct

interior would be first on the list.

Imagine the conversation at the upholstery shop, as you said:

Car Owner:  "I got a quote from SMS Auto Fabrics, and it was 'way too high.

What can I get really cheap?"

Shop proprietor:  "Well, I have this material left over from the last taxi I did..."

A profit margin is very tight on some of these cars. And 55-56 Desotos do not bring the return money at time of sale. As a business working in the auto industry, dealing with vintage and classic cars. A person/owner has to dabble in all aspects of the car industry/market. Working on cars for customers, locating cars and parts, buying/fixing cars. And then selling/flipping them for a profit. As a hobbyist looks at it, one would say that is not right. Should have been this or that. As a business, you have know and watch invested money and finished values. You must cash out of these cars at some point while there is still money to be made. Throw on top of that, other problems that small businesses face in a industry. It makes it very hard to stay in business. Any shop correctly restoring a car, owned by the shop, restored for resale. Will go out of business. Very few cars have a high enough finished value that could keep a business a float restoring them for the purpose of resale. The labor involved, and cost of restoration is to great. A business must do a little of everything to stay in business. Unless you have a customer base/reputation that carries you.

Cars like this one are hard to have a buyer-seller agreement on value.  The interior is redone and perfectly serviceable. So to the seller it's almost as good as restored. It's also obviously incorrect, even to a casual viewer.  So to many buyers, it's almost as bad as a blanket over a torn seat.

What kills the interior is the body color on the dash. If you are going to change the design/color  of the interior. You need to make it match and flow. Dash color maybe correct for the car, I do not know. But it does not go with the new design of the interior. I have never been a fan of bring the exterior color into the interior. Two separate spaces.
