Important 2021 Annual Convention News

With all the best intentions possible, the Annual Convention Committee and the AACA National Board worked with the officials of the Sheraton Hotel to go forward with a postponed convention from February to April. At the time, it was believed that the state of the pandemic and specifically the regulations by the City of Philadelphia would allow us to put on a safe and enjoyable Annual Convention for our members. We even had a special surprise guest who was going to headline the weekend, and the club’s library staff was looking forward to the second year of hosting the fan favorite AACA Pinewood Derby.

Over the last several weeks, it has become increasingly clear that getting any permission to have our event inside a building in Philadelphia was going to be a gamble of gigantic proportions – a gamble the club was unprepared to make. So, before our members and award winners make any further travel plans, we have reluctantly decided to cancel the April date as well.

We have not given up the desire to host a national convention this year, even if we have to reduce the scope of what we traditionally do. As such, the club is working hard on alternative plans for a later date and possibly a different state to be able to host a significant and meaningful event for our members. We are trying to find a host that will allow us to have this event in a location that is easily accessible to the majority of our members, especially those that we would be honoring during the convention.

We wish we could have notified you earlier, but we had held out hope until now that we could indeed conduct our convention as scheduled. We will communicate our new plans as soon as they can be finalized. Thank you for your patience on this matter.

As you are well aware, 2020 and now 2021 have not been without their difficulties for everyone including AACA. Thankfully, we have many great outdoor events already scheduled for 2021, so this should be an excellent year for AACA and the hobby.

Please continue to stay healthy and safe!

A huge thank you to all the AACA officers, members, staff etc involved in trying to get this to work! Totally understandable why it was canceled.

I hope all will understand and appreciate the effort and not complain "you promised " and now it won't happen.  We all want to see friends again, it has been a long haul, and the annual meeting does this above all ( since we are not distracted by displaying our cars, flea markets etc) . The Spirit of Community is at the annual meeting in all shapes and forms.  Continue to be patient all , be so thankful that we have this great forum to keep us all sane and fill us with the history of the vehicles we love and cherish, everyday at all hours.

Stay well all, THANK YOU AACA.

  • 4 weeks later...

The chairman of the Eastern Division Tour was consulted prior to selecting the date and was gracious in having no objection to our plans.  The tour is not a large one and we regret if anyone on that tour now has a conflict but as I am fond of saying, "it is what it is."

Unfortunately folks there are only so many weekends to play with and virtually every date we looked at had a issue with some event.  We actually moved the date due to the ODMA event as it was one of the few weekends available to us.  The date chosen is not ideal for a lot of us, especially national HQ staff but we hope to put on a nice abbreviated event in a beautiful area.

We are cramming a lot of things in a very short time frame this year due to the pandemic.

Sorry about the Convention stepping on the dates for the SouthEastern Div Tour. I am staying with Chuck Crane on the tour.
I will be missing my 1st Annual Meeting/Convention since 1970☹️.

Have a great time at both events.
