wayne sheldon
Looks like an early version? No removeable head? I don't know how long Continental made the 9N series motors, but it seems a 1921 car I sold 35 years ago had one. It had a removeable head. But I could be misremembering the engine model number. I do know for certain it was a Continental Red Seal series. I am curious what make of car you have?

Missing or damaged? My apologies. Some of us crazies are really interested in the unusual early cars.

Bloo
Is that the one that was found in Canada? If so I was watching with great interest at the time.
wayne sheldon
I have seen pictures of that car before, did not remember who had it. How bad is the situation with the engine? It is amazing how bad something can be on these old cars and still be repaired. Bumping this around hoping to catch interest and find what you need?
58L-Y8
A Continental Engine Company history by Karl Zahm in a Cars & Parts magazine article list the following as using the 9N six cylinder: Bour-Davis 21S 1921-'22 Case V 1920-'22 Comet C-53 1920-'23 Ferris C-20 & 60 1920-'22 Jones 28 1920 Jordan F 1920-'22 Kenworthy 6-55 1921 Leach 20, 20A & 999 1920-'23 Meteor 85-B 1920-'22 Metropolitan N-61 1922 Moon 6-66, 6-68 1920-'22 Paige 6-55 1920 Riddle 1076 1920-'22 Roamer 6-54 & 6-54-E 1920-'22 Rock Falls 12 1920-'21 Severin 6H 1920-'22 Stirling 1920-'21 Vogue 6-66 1920-'23 Westcott C-48 1920-'22 Nothing very common or high production back then. Good luck with your search.
rjp
I had a Jordon1917 with the non detachable head. It was a 7 seater. The engine had a crack and was welded but did not know if it broke on the inside. Did not have big enough pockets to have a re cast . Sold to Dave Jordon. He said he had to do that before

58L-Y8
You are welcome. The other six cylinder engines with the same 3.50" X 5.25" bore and stroke as the 9N are as follows: 7N 12X 12XD No automotive application is listed for the 7N, it may have been industrial equipment powerplant. Automotive applications of the 12X & 12XD: Roamer 6-54-E 1923-'24 12X Roamer 6-54-E 1925 12XD This Cars & Parts article doesn't list the truck and/or industrial application in which those engines may have been employed. Because it was a larger displacement six at 303.1 ci. installation in trucks is a possibility you should investigate as well. Good luck with your search. ryan95
So what is damaged on the block? Replacement might be ideal, but maybe it can be fixed if you can't find another.
Bud Tierney
Tracking old engines is endlessly fascinating...My own list for the 9n (primarily from old always incomplete and sometimes erroneous) old parts catalogs) lacked 9 of the above list... But added six, a couple of which are gems... Most of my new six, per those old catalogs, used both thew 7N and 9N, the 7N being by far the most often listed (some 60 or so makes, cars and trucks), implying the 9N may've been an update/modification of the 7N.. Moon and Paige above have clubs, two of my new makes are Auburn and Velie, so there're four clubs to check for an engine...dosn't Elcar have a club??... Incidentally, the series seems to be 6N through 11N, some of which seem to've beem issued in 33/4x5 instead of the (more popular??) 31/2x51/4 per a 1930 catalog. A 1936 catalog onlt lists 31/2, but specifies piston assembly for 6N to 8Nare is for 31/2 bore . All these Ns are dolid head.
Bud Tierney
Should've thought to mention when checking other owners for leads always ask if they know if any or all of th series are drop-in fits for each other... Also looks like my original 7N-9N search was only partial; am filling it out,, will advise if any more clubs pop up...
Bud Tierney
Nothing helpful found...as Case was one of the makes that used both 7N and 9N listed in one catalog as 7N 1917-18 and 9N as 1918-19...you might try to find out if blocks are interchangeable or whole 7N engine would do...if so, post in the old truck sites, too, as 7N was in a lot of trucks, incl Diamond T and GMC (yes, GMC early on used some Cont'ls)......
