noels 26
I have a 1926 dodge 4 door with the disc wheels. Im trying to replace the castle nut on the end of the axel. The other side is a 7/8 inch nut but the side im working on its slightlt bigger and I cannt find a nut or a die to fit it. Has anyone ealse had this problem? Any ideas? thanks
Machinist_Bill
I guess we can start with: "Did it have a nut on it before you started?" If not then it sounds like someone hammered on the end of the axle shaft and slightly mushroomed the end. One way to verify is to use a micrometer or a dial caliper and measure the outside diameter of the threads on the end and then measure about 1/2" from the end and see if there is a difference. nearchoclatetown
Exactly. And the best way to dress the threads is a thread file. Everyone should have a pair in their toolbox. The two of them pretty much cover all American threads, and there is a metric one too.
Ron Lawson
Left hand or right hand thread also. Left hand thread on the left axle
