All I can say is thanks, it's well past time. The anonymous postings allowed for alot of crank snipy type posts.

here here! I had a guy rip my head off for criticizing the paint job of a car in a particular lot in Staunton, IL. Some of you might know which lot that is. Funny thing is, I bet he was the one that was responsible for the ridiculous price tag. His post was Anonymous. If you have the guts to say something bad, then take credit for it.

There are many examples of why this change was necessary. Most of them reside on the CCCA and AACA sides, but I don't know anyone on any forum that wasn't unneccessarily attacked by some coward annoymously.

However, we'll now have lost the opportunity to communicate with the casual readers of the forum who are either curious about the hobby or only interested in a small question that (they think) isn't worth their registering for. There have been many people who have taken advantage of the expertise and perspective of this group (of now over 10,000). I'd like to think that many of them became further involved as participants either in the clubs or in the hobby in general based on the access they found here.

Now we'll have to overcome the psychological barrier of registering before we can attract new blood here.

I'm sure there will be a flood of new registrants at first, as the casual users discover the change and decide to stay. But new people just got a lot harder to find here.

In fact, as I type this the next four threads (most recently posted on) were all started by annoymous posters. All of them are of the type that most of us read this forum for.

Dave, if they really want the info then they will register and ask the question. It's not like they can run to Walmart to get the answers.

It doesn't take 2 minutes to register for this forum. If it was insane like some other sites I would be concerned...but to me this was a very easy thing to do and it was instant. Even the V8buick site was a little more problematic than I would have wanted. With the confirmations through email and all that. I like the changes.

If you want to ask a question and get professional answers from people who really know their sh*t, then it is worth the time to register. That's why I'm here...to learn and grow my knowledge of the cars I love - Buicks.

yes, it was a real problem trying to communicate with a bunch of people in one thread who all post themselves as anonymous, especially in the buy/sell section. having a name to place with a question or response also makes for more reasonable replies. thanks.

I am also pleased that users will have to be named. It will hopefully stop some of the nonsense that we have had in the past.

Well I guess I'm going against the grain here, but I liked posting anonymously. Not that I was trying to hide or anything, but if I had a comment to say, I didn't have to bother logging in. Oh well, whats one more user name/password to remember....

I am happy to see that too. After the site changed that last time, where anyone could post, it seemed the site postings went down a bit.

I too am happy with the change. It will take me some time to get use to it but I feel it was a necessary. My goal is to learn from others and to offer suggestions in areas I have knowledge in. Also do not forget you can send a poster a message if you don't want it on the forum. Someone was giving me some legal insight into a problem and didn't want to post under their name. So we can still accomplish our goals.

To me, it was a non-factor. I'm a casual fan and Buick admirer, and I made the occaisional anonymous post. As soon as I had to register, I did. No big deal.
