Bill Stoneberg Posted January 24, 2021 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Not exactly an antique like most of us think of one, but the car is 40 years old. 1980 Cadillac Coupe De Ville. Nice clean southern car with 85,000 miles on it. It's of the era of low power and the 85 mph speedometer. Drives nicely and can go 70 on the freeway. tomcarnut Posted January 24, 2021 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Looks like a great hot weather tour car. I have 1996 Buick Roadmaster that is now an eligible AACA car. We used a few times the last few years on local tours when it was 90 plus high humidity. My other collector cars do not have A/C. Now it is official and I plan to maybe have it judged for first junior or HPOF at some point. Mostly use it to tow my brass cars but now can take it on a Founders tour. Have fun with your Caddy! rocketraider Posted January 24, 2021 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Wait. What?! 1980 can't be 40 years ago!😳 What's sad is that a 1940 car was probably built better and tougher than most 1980 cars. And were just as easy to find parts for in 1980 as a 1980 car is today! Try "snapping" the band selector bar side to side sharply a few times. This example is just begging for a nice, long ride. We have taken for a couple of rides around our area. Today was a nice spring day and we put about 70 miles on it. Supposedly it was to make sure the new radio was working but we hardly had it on. Over the weekend we put another 100 miles on just wasting time and gas. It drives as good as it looks and while I have found a few minor details that need some help ( white paint on the lower part of the passenger side and a crease where someone put a door into it) for the most part it is a great running and driving car. We are looking forward to driving the car this summer to the Cadillac Nationals in Albuquerque. Something sadder then a trashed out Luxert car is one that has been turned into a Donk. We used to say that a ragged-out Ford, Chevy or Plymouth was bad, but a ragged-out Caddy, Buick or Lincoln was a true road whore. Rode hard and put away wet. Glad you've straightened out the radio. If someone actually forced that particular 1977 - 1990 body style upon me, a 1990 would be my only choice. It has the best build quality, and most up-to-date features, which also better disguised those god-awful 5-mph bumpers all those malaise era cars get blessed with. I would never pay a ton of money for one as there were still lots of annoyances with those cars up until the end, and the fake wood in the interior which does not belong in a Cadillac never did anything for me.
