vette-kid
Anyone know what size threads are on the shifter? 5/16-24 is there closest fit I can find, but that only goes on about 6 turns. Perhaps my threads are buggered up? Or is it something besides 5/16-24?
DFeeney
I would think your thread size is 5/16-24 since you can turn it 6 turns. Buy a bottom tap and retread the handle. I use a little thread lock as the knob as it can come use by continuous use. The knobs are expensive now compared to the old days. Stay Safe. jpage
The thread is 5/16-24. Just run a 5/16-24 die over the threads on the shaft. I bought a nice original looking knob at NAPA for under $10. I did have to sand it a little and resprayed it with a satin black and it looks just fine. I wasn't paying $50 for a shift knob!
vette-kid
I could have done that I suppose (paint one), but I was worked about the paint not holding up well. I found a pretty cool looking bakelite knob on eBay a while back but the threads were wrong. I ended up using a coupling nut epoxied into it.
