'I love it when a van comes together!' Official A-Team van that comes with a 50-caliber machine gun and is one of only six exact replicas goes up for auction

  • Chevrolet van was licensed by Universal Studios and was used to promote show
  • It is an exact replica with iconic black and metallic grey bodywork and a spoiler
  • The van was displayed across the US and features prop guns mounted inside

Specialists at the auction house are refusing to put an exact estimate on the vehicle but are expecting a huge interest.

A spokesman said: 'Pop culture always presents highly valued objects.

'Often, these objects are replicated but rarely can one acquire an authentic, officially licensed piece of history.

'Icons from the '80s are just now coming in to their own and the enjoyment and investment potential of this A-Team Van are obvious

One of the six vans Universal Studios licensed for the A-team will be available to fans of the show when it goes up for auction

Pictured: Hannibal lights a cigar while the team sit in the van in an episode of the hit 1980s TV show

The A-Team van (pictured in an episode of the show) has become an enduring pop culture icon

There is also a replica 50 caliber machine gun can-mounted to the floor in the back of the van

The van comes with replica guns mounted to the walls and four seats - one for each of John 'Hannibal' Smith, Templeton 'Faceman' Peck, B. A. Baracus, HM 'Howling Mad' Murdock

A-team fans would be able to sit in BA Barracus's driving seat in the van's roomy interior

I'm sure some older folks were thinking the same thing when the original Batmobiles were being sold.

At least this van can actually be driven like a normal car unlike the Batmobiles.

With the Van Culture and Clubs around now, someone is going to be interested in it.

Around where I live someone has taken a van and painted up a not very authentic 60s style Mystery-Machine van from Scooby-Doo. They have it full of stuffed Scooby and Shaggy plush toys. Not really something I would be driving around to shows and cruise nights but to each there own. I would take the A-Team Van over that Mystery Machine Van any day.

The van isn't something I have interest in at all but I do like the A Team movie, series whatever., find it amusing .  I especially like the team phrase " I love it when a plan comes together" I think of that every time I try to get something to work which by all rational and sane thinking is just impossible to do , but then does happen .

I'm the right age and demographic for that and while I have all kinds of childhood happiness seeing it, I don't much want to own it. On the other hand, I bet it attracts more attention at a show than my 1929 Cadillac, so who knows?

Seeing that gun mounted in the back reminds me of a story. When I was building tuner Corvettes back when the C5 came out in the late '90s, we had a client who built security escort vehicles for dignitaries, mostly in the Middle East. Big engines, armor, bulletproof glass, special tires, etc. He said the trucks had to be able to drive 120 MPH in the desert heat (important motorcades apparently drive everywhere at 100 MPH because, obviously, then you know who's following you). Anyway, he said that his best seller wasn't the heavily armored Suburban simply because he always talked buyers out of it. No, the one he preferred to sell was a Suburban with a pop-up 50-cal machine gun, a sliding roof, and a floor made out of sewer grate (so the hot shells would have somewhere to go). I'll paraphrase his explanation: "See, with the armor, once the bad guys get the truck stopped the instinct is to just hunker down and wait. That's a mistake, because eventually they're gonna get in no matter what I make it out of. But with the gun truck, the only thing you can do is get the gun out and correct the situation."

Correct the situation. I always liked that.

Never usurp a buyer's right to purchase an item or take away the opportunity of knowing it can be purchased.

A person with good taste will rarely turn down a cup of coffee purchased with money from the sale of something gauche and tasteless.

And I have foot the bill for a lot of coffee sessions.

Since my teenage years were spent in the early/mid 1980s, I certainly remember the show and the van. Seeing this brings back fun memories of a TV show I really liked. Not something I would want to own, but I bet it will do well and there are probably some 1980s TV nerds with disposable income that are eyeing this van very closely right now.

I think that if the "normal" auctions were allowed to take place-such as the usual Scottsdale circuses that would be going on this week-this van would really have done well.  I could see it being really hyped for a big, live auction and maybe even having one of the A-Team stars drive it onto the block. The potential live spectacle could really have pumped the bids. Even without a big presentation, it will probably attract a fair amount of bidders. It will be interesting to see what it sells for.

I like the van...not sure I would pay for it... but we should have some fun, just for bragging rights, standard rules closest to selling price without going over.  Not all the fee costs, just hammer price.

Auction is January 24th so not long to wait.

My guess is $126,000    that is $2,600 for the van, it has 90K on the odometer, 10K for the auction hype, another 30K to customize the van, and the rest to provenance
