bobs1916 6
Hello If there are any owners of 1918 touring or phaetons on the forum I am in need of a pair of top socket rests for my Type 57. If no spares are out there could someone please provide me with the casting numbers and or pictures so I know what to look for. Very much appreciated . It is possible that the type 51 53 55 59 all might fit I am not sure. Thank you in advance Bob Edited January 8 by bobs1916 (see edit history)
Michael J. Barnes 22
Do you mean where the convertible top sits down on the top of the windshield? Sorry to say I cannot picture what a top socket rest is. But if you clarify for me, I may be able to help. The earlyv8cadillac forum is managed by me. Mike
bobs1916 6
hello I mean the bracket on each side of the car, in the rear, which the top sits in when the top is lowered. It opens and clamps and then latches closed surrounding the metal sockets of the top. Here is one of but it is not necessarily for a Cadillac The red car is a 5 passenger 1918 touring. See how it mounts to the body. The green one is a 1918 7 passenger. Bracket is a bit different Edited February 14 by bobs1916 (see edit history)
Michael J. Barnes 22
This topic has come up before. I believe this part is pretty generic — perhaps not even of Cadillac manufacture. I will upload a pic from my 1924, but though they came from a Cadillac owner, they may work on lots of other cars, and mine may have been from another car.

KLF 143
Bob I collected a number of these when I needed them for my Premier. I might have what you need. I need to know how long on the inside you need and how wide on the inside in about the middle. Also the part that attaches to the body bracket can be in a number of positions. Does the photo show that location is where you need it?? It took me 4 or 5 tries to get ones that would work for me... Ken

Thanks yes I agree they may have been generic but with so many of them out there Where to begin?? That is why I was hoping for a casting number as most of these parts have such a number
72caddy 47
These are generally referred to as ‘top saddles’. I am sure someone can give you the casting numbers that work for your car. As mentioned the number of top sockets and mounting point and angle of these were specific to auto makers.

KLF 143
That picture is too small to really be of much help. You need the measurements I mentioned and where the mounting pin or hole is. Ken
sagefinds 153
Bob, I have 1 1/2 '18 projects,I'll dig around and see what I have but don't expect immediate action. I will tell you this, the Cad body just has a hole. The correct saddle has that bolt head that you see in the red car picture. It goes through two pieces of pipe cut at an angle. As you tighten that bolt head,it pulls the halves together and spreads them holding the saddle tight in place. I saw a pair on ebay maybe a year ago that would have been pretty close to exactly what you need but were not marked with any car make. I think he had them priced at $268 for the pair. I knew him and told him I thought they were Cad but whether he put that in the listing is unknown. I didn't look for them again. PM me if you want his user ID,maybe I can still retrieve it out of the memory bank. Steve
