Looks like a solid car at a decent asking price.

Not sure what the fixation on the steering wheel knob is about, but some owners seem to like them a lot. My '37 LaSalle came with one. I took it off the day I brought it home. Not planning to turn donuts on the neighbor's lawn anytime soon.

Interesting that an owner has added a fourth porthole on each front fender!

I could not count on both hands how many ‘54 Centurys I’ve seen through the years where some owner has added a porthole. In fact, I’ve owned one, the 3 speed I bought from our old friend @palbuick , may he Rest In Peace. 🙏

My 55 Century has 4 holes.

In 1954, only the Roadmasters had 4 portholes ("ventiports"). In 1955, Centurys, and I think Supers, got 4 as well.

In our part of the woods, they were known as "necker-knobs" as to allow the driver (typically male) to keep one hand free for "other things"....   Use your imagination. :-0

Still for sale, I'm surprised.

Me, too. This is a lot more car than the other stuff we've been praising as bargains.

Maybe it's "the asking price is too low; there must be something wrong with it" disease.

Seems like a good deal but the interior is full of stuff (trash, spare parts?) with no real pictures, torn, dried out, bad smell?  No engine or trunk pics and the front edge of the hood looks rusty. Owner can keep the steering wheel knob. Might be more problems here than meets the eye, gorgeous cars of this vintage shouldn't last long at $5900.

Back in Jersey in the ‘50s it was called a “Necker’s Knob”.

You could steer your car with only your left hand,

allowing you to keep your right arm where it belonged,

around your girlfriend who also managed the 3-on-the-tree Stick-Shift while she cuddled up close !

All of my cars had a Neckers Knob,

And I still have a couple of them,

but not installed.

Looks very bad.  A typical rust spot for the '54.  Between the letters and that big, beautiful hood ornament, a lot of water gets into the seams and rusts sets in.

The water being condensate that rolls down into the lip. Not a problem until the hood insulation is removed.

$4,500 car in my opinion.

and with that pretty wife of yours, why not?!!

Rita once asked why don't we snuggle and neck while driving down the road any more like we use to when dating, to which I replied "Well, I haven't moved"....  maybe if you install one of the Neckers knobs, you'll get lucky. 😉

Right, you are !

Gettin' lucky? Sometimes gettin' lucky beats the heck out of skill, talent, and planning-

But I really should install that Necker's Knob.

I have a '30s vintage one that was on the '34 Buick - took it off when we restored it,

and one I got with a picture in it of Marilyn Monroe with the white dress from the movie "Seven Year Itch",

and I guess it belongs on the '54 Caddy
