This is an interesting car, but it doesn’t speak to me for some reason. Speak to me as I saying gotta have it. Looks like a great car. So, why isn’t it screaming at me to buy? Fender skirts? The designers clearly wanted open wheel wells, for a light and lithe look. I don't know whether the interior is correct or not. However, the car overall gives a very nice appearance. I never knew who did the song until I posted the link a half an hour ago. Looking at youtube, I got the impression that Eartha's version is the standard, but for some reason I always associated it with Marilyn. Pictures without the fender skirts (from the web). The car looks better without the skirts or the fuzzy dice, just my opinion. The 55er Posted December 24, 2020 Share Posted December 24, 2020 I'm really no expert but I've owned seven different 1954 Oldsmobiles in my life. Two were very long-term daily drivers. This 98 Starfire convert is attractive from the outside but IMO nothing in the interior should be black. According to the 1954 dealer album an Olds with a Capri blue exterior only came with a two-tone blue or light blue and ivory leather interior. That and the incorrect fluffy brown trunk material are the biggest problems I have with it. I hate to nitpick but I feel that if someone is offering an overpriced car for sale as this seller is he's opening himself up to some criticism. For 52K the top & power windows should be in working condition. It should have the wheel cylinder repaired, an easy fix so that problem wouldn't have to be mentioned in the ad. There are other little annoying things here like incorrect carpeting, missing seat skirts, just plain ugly steering wheel (correct reproductions are available), wrong outside mirrors (again, repros are available), missing front radiator baffle, incorrect sized battery with no hold down, shoddy underhood wiring with the horns not hooked up and an incorrect Autronic Eye phototube unit on top of the dash. I agree the car would look better without the chrome headlights and accessory Foxcraft fender skirts (factory skirts were not offered for this model). Dual exhausts were not available on an Olds until 1956 but are a nice addition. It seems that if the seller spent some time and money to address the obvoius issues here instead of leaving them for the next owner he could expect to get a higher price for his car. The 55er Posted December 24, 2020 Share Posted December 24, 2020 I might also add that the VIN number in the seller's description isn't correct for a 1954 Oldsmobile. It's easy to find and the silver tag is clearly visible in the 6th picture with the driver's door open located just under the upper door hinge. It should start with 54 and then a 9 denoting a 98 series car, then an assembly plant letter followed by more numbers. The engine identification numbers (non-matching of course) begin with the letter V so I don't see how the VIN number posted applies to a 1954 Olds. It was my daily driver in 1961 , I didn't drive it to high school , gas to expensive , 33 cents a gallon. Used it on the weekend , if I had enough gas money. A Pair of Spotlights? and would surely look better without the skirts? These are very niice, but I like the '56 better, and the '57 "98" convertible )with J-2 best of the three models!
