Love it, especially the colors

Plymouth, did you see that really cool yellow woody wagon - Desoto, I think - the other day in the "not mine" forum? Much to my surprise, I REALLY liked that car in yellow. (Slightly weird interior, though.) I love this '54, too, but for some reason I think it would take me a while to get used to a step down Hudson in yellow. And also, in the spirit of tradition...where's the sun visor???

The DeSoto wagon is also a California car.

16 months, no sale and then a 50% increase in price?   All within view of San Francisco Bay where Milt Friedman's ashes are scattered...

Good grief.

This is my car. Prices have gone way up in the last year.  If I ask $10000 offers come in at $5000.  I’ve seen junk for sale at $10,000 for several months now.  Try finding an original good running 54 Hudson with low mileage for $10,000.

I'm very familiar with this car.  The seller (Nick) is a well-known collector in San Francisco who parks a lot of cars on the street.  A lot of us are accustomed to slowing down when we pass his house to see what's new! 😄

Meaningless BS but for the record, I was walking through the North Field at Spring Carlisle two months ago and happened upon a pair of fender skirts under a vendor's table that were marked 1954 Hudson. They were in fairly good shape and were yellow in color so I believe yellow was a legitimate Hudson color in 1954. I picked them up, looked them over, and set them back down as I really didn't have a reason to buy them and carry them back to my space. Just something a little unusual that you don't see every day.

Colors comment regarding the '54 Hudsons. I've owned two '54 Hornet Special coupes in the distant past. Have an acquaintance that owns a '54 Hornet Special Club Sedan (2 door sedan, long roof). The entire model year did offer the color called "Green Gold" which was a darker yellow that most would liken to the color of the condiment "mustard". My friend's Club Sedan is "Green Gold" with black roof. The Sunburst Yellow is an interesting alternative.

That Hudson Jet you pictured, Hudsy, looks good

Yes the white roof "lightens up" the top-heavy look of the Jet. The same is true of the Hornet Hollywood that Xander just posted. Perhaps that is something that other Jet owners might bear in mind.

Hudson stepdowns are all supposed to be factory stamped in the right front door upper hinge, body mount half, with the paint code for the car. That location happens to be under a glued, wide rubber weatherseal which is there to divert water coming off the right corner of the windshield. I was around a lot of stepdown Hudsons in my active hobby years. I think I actually did see ONE such code stamping. The problem being that seal very typically trapped moisture underneath it causing rust scaling which obliterated the stamp. And I'm not sure they actually did do the stamping!

It also obliterated the hinge. I have to say, Hudson had the strangest design going on in the front door/ pillar area. The big hotdog looking seal on the front edge of the door is a strange one. And that vertical seal in the jam always pits the hinge and the front pillar. I have seen hinges rust to the point of breaking because of that seal.

If the seller is getting any offers, they are all well below the latest and next asking prices as nonce were accepted! Its well enough documented in the photographs that this old "streets of San Francisco" car is due for some light body work and a complete repaint or it is going to be difficult to show the car with any pride, even at just a local cruise night.
I drove a '54 Hornet Special coupe in community college and can attest to the roadworthiness of all Stepdown Hudsons. Hornet motors are hard on headgaskets and timing chains/gear sets and one other thing: the brass oil pump gear that drives the distributor. Don't know this car's maintenance in those three areas but highly recommend you inquire and if not "recent", plan on replacements if you want to enjoy this car. A Hudson Hornet isn't "Fabulous" without addressing this paragraph's concerns.

Any of you who have had postwar Hudson know that the company used sheet metal trim retainers of various lengths that were then Phillips screwed to the body panels. Clearly visible on this car is the fact that these retainers are rusting and the rust is spreading away from the stainless trim under the factory paint (lacquer). The Hudson hobby has made some replacement retainers but my concern is what you will have happen ongoing in the future with this rust and anyone who has worked on this trim with these retainers will agree that they are a major pain as the rust has expanded within the stainless trim. Miles of Hudson stainless trim has been damaged trying to replace retainers. And Hudson stainless trim is not easy to find today.

Having previously owned two '54 Hornet Specials, I do like the car however.

Trim is very easy to remove with out damage, if you are going to repaint the car. You can sacrifice the trim retainer and have zero damage to the trim. Remove the trim from the car with retainer still inside the trim. With a cut off wheel, score/cut the retainer strip down the middle and remove. People who try to pry or walk off the trim from the retainer strip. Always mess up the edges, and distort the shape of the trim. Very hard to get all of the bite marks out of the leading edge when polishing. Hornet coupe side trim is just about impossible to find anymore.
