1956 Chevrolet 4 dr HT. Bel Air - Craigslist find I'd like some feedback on

The negatives of the car, IMO, were the standard tri-five Chevy mark up/premium and the standard "resto/refurb cost vs. buying a nice driver for equal or less money" dilemma.

 

The positives were the AZ history, the title in the owner's name and four door configuration. Two door versions are too expensive for what they are, IMHO. And 75% of them have jacked with by American Graffiti types. My brother bought a running two door '55 Chevy in 1969 for sixty dollars. Even though it had a straight six, he jacked it up in the back with 2x4's and painted it red with a dozen cans of spray paint. 😄

The Tucson CL has been running out of decent builder cars.  Only thing that seems to be left are ones that are done and commanding a high price or real pieces of junk that need lots of work and no one wants them.  I was at the paint shop on Friday and asked the guy if they have been busy. He told me that they have been selling a lot of painting stuff since a lot of people are doing car restorations.  Go figure.

I was going to say that it looks like a split case probably a 1959. My neighbor rebuilds VW transmissions and has had them in his shop. Parts are hard to get for them.

Likely a wise decision. The 56 4 door hardtop is my favorite of the tri five bowties, but what that car needs compared to what a good driver cost... you would have to enjoy the work as much as the driving... and I do not.

Really ???  The above are parts for the split case.

It was a vw pan..  I did not know I had it.. Some one in Oklahoma found  it on Craigslist listed for 100.00

 

I still have the steering wheel to it.. and two hub caps..

 

It was gone in two days..

 

He told me it was a 1962 or 1963 bug or vw karmann ghia pan..

Peter, you'll find that 4-door hardtops, of almost

any make and model, are much scarcer than

people realize.  They are under-appreciated by

collectors and, while they were prevalent when new,

now they are scarce--much like station wagons.

 

For instance, try finding a 1955 or 1956 Cadillac

4-door hardtop for sale in nice condition.  Or a

1957 Lincoln;  or a 1958 Chrysler;  or a 64 Buick Electra.

Sorry, actually not that common new (except for Cadillac and Station Wagons) since price was considerably higher than the base post 2-door.

  Well, as you can see it all started with someone saying what about this 1966 Chrysler Newport, 

then someone said what about this 1965  Rambler project, 

then someone suggested a 55 Chevy 4 dr. sedan ( nothing to do with 4 dr. hardtops)

then came a 1941 "C" body Buick 4dr. another Sedan

then came the VW.

Entertaining no? better than nothing happening on the forum.

Still have the Bel Air for sale.. and a few Kaiser Frazer..

 

Or I have this to get rid of this.. Not sure if I will do anything with it.. It was installed in a Kaiser Darrin.. Last ran in 1971..
