Gm's Harley Earl inspired by Lockheeds WWll P38 twin boom fighter aircraft enlisted the design team headed by Frank Hershey to create what you see on this page, and sparking a trend in "Tailfins" by automotive manufacturers in incorporating aircraft motif's into the design of their cars.  It became ridiculous in its execution, the best example as seen on the almost decadent tailfins on the 1959 Cadillac. This 1948 was the beginning of this trend without at doubt and its evolution continued through 1963.
Representing a fairly original sedan, its in wonderful condition and runs equally as well. Its lacquer ebony finish is of course older illustrating 72 years of wear. There exists some touched up areas , and random chipping, most predominantly on the roof, however this is to be expected of it age and in all probability should be left original. It tells its own story. They are only original once. Regardless, it presents itself magnificently.
There appears to be no previous accident damage, rot or bondo, simply cosmetic touched up areas occurring at some point over the previous 72 years or its existence. Normal surface rust only on its suspension. This is a very solid car.
Its stainless trim and glass is excellent as its interior, exhibited in the photographs. There is some pitting flaking on the bumpers chrome vertical horns .
Powered by a 346 cubic inch Flathead V8, the final year for the flathead for Cadillac, producing 150+ h/p which is more than compensated for by the added torque of the under square relationship of stroke to bore.
Equipped with a very rare three speed manual transmission, it shifts nicely, and runs smoothly, with no unusual noises or smoke.
The 1948 Cadillac Model 61 is sold with a clear title, original owners manual and 1948 Cadillac workshop manual which is surprisingly detailed.
It is encouraged interested buyers please contact me to schedule a in person inspection. It will be sold as is, where is, with no warranty expressed or implied. This is a lovely predominantly original Cadillac, and please do not expect it to be perfect, as none of this vintage really are unless restored. Well sorted, and fun to drive.
Prospective buyers will be interviewed by a member of the Corleone family beforehand to insure future gratuitous services will be expected if requested.
Phone Calls ONLY appreciated. Please..... NO TEXTS. Ask for Vito....

Beautiful, clean car. Too bad the owner didn't re-upholster the seats with original-like material.

Good asking price, though.

What's with the tailpipe?

Bolt on do-dad on the tail pipe. This car is located five miles from my home up north. If someone is interested in it, I have friends in the area. Series 61 is not a CCCA car.......thus the low price.

More interesting is that power steering pump???

Seller didn't mention it, maybe he thinks P/S was standard?  Wonder about the modifications that were done to add it.  Could be a little or a lot. . . .
