kdml
I'm doing some head work on my '65 401. I noticed in the service manual that it lists two installed heights for springs. One for outer spring (1.600") and one for inner spring (1.690"). I understand how to measure installed height for the outer spring (spring seat to underside of retainer where the spring touches); however, I want to confirm when checking the inner spring installed height what part of the retainer do I measure to. Common sense tells me the measurement is from the inner spring seat to the step on the retainer the inner spring touches. Is this correct? Also, I understand I will need to shim the outer spring to get to the correct installed height. I assume I need to shim the inner spring as well to achieve the correct installed height - correct?
