Buick35
Hi,I just got a shop manual for my 35 40 series to see how to adjust my brakes. It says to use a special wrench to adjust the eccentric pin and a special tool that checks the gap between the drum and the shoes. Dose anyone have these if I need them? Thanks. pont35cpe
On my `36, i used a 9/16" wrench for the lock-down eccentric nut, and a small adjustable wrench for the eccentric stud. I also just use a feeler gauge(.010)that the blade is narrow enough to fit thru the window of the brake drum to gauge clearance. Good luck.. 50jetback
Well done on purchasing a shop manual. If you follow the instructions for a major adjustment which includes removing all wheels and checking/lubricating all cotter pins and cables and resetting to factory specs you need to put aside a full day. It is well worth the exercise as the mechanical brakes on the 34/35 Series 40 are excellent, in fact better than many hydraulic set ups of the day and later. A tip if you have to replace brake linings. Seek out N.O.S. sets ( usually heaps on eBay ) as they are softer material than modern linings. They also include clearly identified Primary and Secondary linings which in my experience seem to be made of slightly different material.
