This Marmon Sixteen project is listed in Dyke W. Ridgley’s Marmon Sixteen Roster as being chassis number 16 140 942, and retains its original engine, number 16 878. It is one of approximately 75 existing Marmon Sixteens.

Originally, this was a four-door sedan but all that remains of the body are the cowl assembly, four rough doors and miscellaneous body hardware.

This car was acquired in the 1950s by well-known former Duesenberg factory mechanic Marion Roberts and his British Motor Company, of Niagara Falls, New York. It eventually found its way to North Carolina and became part of the famed hord of project cars owned by Minges  family. After the famous sale of the Minges collection it passed through the hands of well-known Marmon enthusiasts Bill Snyder, Marvin Tamaroff and the Andrews Collection-all of whom had ideas of building a one-off, Marmon custom speedster but never got around to it.

Although rusty and needing a complete restoration, the chassis is extremely complete, unmolested, intact and original including the famed Marmon 200 horsepower/490 CID, sixteen-cylinder engine assembly with its proper valve covers, distributor assembly, manifolds, wiring fixtures, fan, fuel pump, water pump, radiator, etc. The 145” wheelbase chassis and all of its components look very complete including front and rear ends, steering assembly, suspension, braking system including the booster assembly, body mounts, gas tank, four correct wire wheels with the correct lock rings, etc. etc. There is a separate chrome radiator shell with the louver assembly, good headlamps, a partial pair of taillights, luggage rack, a very complete hood assembly and more small items.

The chassis rolls and steers and the transmission shifts through the gears. It does not appear that the chassis components or engine has ever been separated from each other or disassembled. It is a very intact and untouched unit. All the important chassis parts are here.

This project offers some exciting potential opportunities to the new owner. It would be a great basis for a speedster, racing special or one-off custom creation. It could also be used as a great display chassis or as parts source for any serious Marmon Sixteen collector.

The price is 39,000.00 and it is being sold with a Bill of Sale. Located near Detroit, Michigan.
