That's a nice-looking Oldsmobile.

I didn't recall seeing a 1957 with the 2 tones

of paint split that way, until I checked

Google Images and saw others.  It looks

very good in that subtle color combination.

For those who were around at that time, were

single tones more common for '57 Oldsmobiles?

I recall that form of 2-tone being somewhat common on sedan and hardtop versions, but don't think on convertibles - different color for body than convertible top, but not on body.

One of the customers on my newspaper route had a son who served on the local police department. He bought a brand new black 1957 Olds 98 convertible - probably with the J-2 triple 2-barrel carburetor (Tri-Power) option, added skirts and per my ancient memory, the continental kit with full disk cover and stainless band. As I recall, he probably also lowered it as was the custom at that time. They had a somewhat steep driveway apron on DeWitt Terrace in Linden, NJ. I believe he added rollers under the rear bumper to allow street/driveway access. I also recall that he was overweight and prone to eating large quantiities of greasy porkchops late at night, and died of a major heart attack. I have no idea what happened to the car afterward.

A few years afterward I tried to buy a black '54 Cadillac ElDorado convertible with a similar continental kit and dual-Quad carbs, offered for sale , asking $250.00 at a cheapie used car lot on US-1 just south of Styles St in Linden, near the GM B-O-P Assembly Plant across from the airport. I wasn't old enough to sign for it, and Dad would not go along with my questionable choice. I remember the Vent windows being separate from the window channels, similar to vintage wind wings.

I had a bit of a beater convertible one of these when I was a teenager.

I was working at the local Ford dealer and came out after work one day and the drivers door was crushed in so far that it wouldn't open.

Of coarse no one knew how that happened.

I sure do like the looks of this one. Brings back fond memories.
