Phillip Robinson
I have a 1936 Ford, flat4, 10 up. I am redoing the motor, which is very similar to the T model, and now I want to know if anybody has used grease on the Head gasket, rather than a spray-on glue. Any ideas. The gasket is a composite copper , the copper being on both sides. Thanks
Guest
You can put the gasket on dry although some lube (grease) may help the gasket shift slightly as it is torqued down. I have done it both ways. I do not like any glue like product as it makes it harder to remove the gasket later. By the way I have reused laminated gaskets four times with excellent success. FYI A flat four is a Volkswagen pancake style engine. Your engine is an "L" or "flat" head engine.
