$um Fun
I took off the oil pan to do work on the oil pump and noticed the counter weights are bolted on and the bolts are tack welded. This is the first time I ever opened up a early Chrysler motor and it just looked odd. For my general knowledge is this how the 1929 Model 75 crankshaft should look? With all of Chrysler's engineering prowess at the time, it just seems like a odd way of doing things.
Vintageben
Oh yeah that’s how they look 🙄 I was not so impressed when I pulled down my 65 engine and it was the same definitely extra work for the rebuild

I'm not a rebuilder but very curious as to what extra work would be involved over a crankshaft with integral counter weights?
edinmass
Common on high end cars.....Pierce used the same method from 1929 to 1933.......on some of their cars. You usually Ed to remove them to grind the crank. More fun! 1

Yeah as Edinmass Says you have to remove the the counter weights to grind the crank, it’s great fun
$um Fun
What a pain, it almost looks like after the crank was designed they found out the long rods needed more counter weight. The fun begins.
edinmass
The joy's of high end cars.........don't worry. You will run into similar things a thousand times before your phone. Many people have no clue how many more parts there are on a high end car.....it never ends.
