Seller's Description:

1959 Pontiac Catalina Hardtop Coupe

  • cylinders: 8 cylinders
  • transmission: automatic

1959 Pontiac Catalina, hardtop coupe (no pillar when windows are down), out of decades of storage and up and running once again. 389 V8, 4-speed AT, manual steering and brakes. Starts, runs, shifts and stops enough to drive around the block, but not roadworthy yet. Needs carb rebuild, tires, etc. I bought this as part of a package deal from the man who had it in storage, and can't say much about the car except that it was in Butte at least back into the 1970's. Believed to be 108K miles.

This is the same body shell as the 1959 Chevy Impala hardtop, but a much better car: big-block 389 vs small block 283, 4 speed automatic vs 2-speed auto. With a 59 Pontiac you have the same size, same weight, same great late-50's style, but with a lot more usable car. First year of the iconic Pontiac split grill, rocket fins, and one of the best dash layouts ever. These are great looking cars.

The motor sounds great and has tons of power/torque, but the carb is gummed up inside and it's currently running rich. Still, no blue smoke out the tailpipe, so it looks like the motor is solid and won't need rebuilding, just tuning. Sounds good, and I have videos of a startup and short drive. Lights, horn, gauges, and wipers work. Tires are old and not safe. Transmission shifts through the gears forward and reverse without any noises around the block. I put a new sending unit in the gas tank and a new fuel pump on, only to find that the line is plugged, so it's currently running off an auxiliary tank under the hood. Charging system works well. Paint is shot and a previous owner touched it up with a rattle can on the white areas, but not the red. No signs of any accidents or repair work on the body.

Complete car, isolated spots of rust, dings and dents, but complete and running. Right year, right colors, right body, right drivetrain. This would make a great restoration project, or do a few more things and drive as-is.

You simply do not find running-and-driving 1959 coupes anymore at this price, let alone red and white ones. Comes with an extra front fender and a few trim pieces. Cash only. Clean Montana title. Calls only, no emails or texts. If you miss me leave a message because I get a lot of spam.

A '59 Bubble top Pontiac;  I thought these cars were sought after.  I guess not!  For $6,800 I would buy but I have no place to Park it!   If it had a bow tie on the front it would sell faster!

I wish I could buy it,

Another long-winded ad with the seller trying to justify his high asking price. Too many loose ends, missing pieces and little problems that need fixed, there are not enough positives here for someone to buy this car and restore it for the money IMO. With all the dents, kinks and shoddy rattle can body repairs I'll bet this Catalina looks a lot better in the pictures than it does in person. Just my two cents but I'd have to pass on this one.

This poor 59 Pontiac looks like it's been "through the mill" so to speak and has led a very hard life. Seller should go ahead and advertise it nationally....at a much lower price. With all its present mechanical issues there should be better restoration candidates out there.
