Lebowski
Now there is a really unique car at a reasonable price. You would definitely have the only one at your local cruise or car show. Were there originally some metal strips on the back of the rear seat and the space behind it? auburnseeker
Unfortunately alot of wagon specific trim pieces missing inside. The die cast also has alot of pitting. Replacement pieces or rechroming is going to be expensive. I like wagons and it has a certain coolness factor but I would say market priced or even a little high. Dosmo
I'm pretty familiar with these Chrysler & DeSoto wagons from the early 1950s - I have never seen a headliner area that looked anything like this one. Every one I've ever seen had a fabric headliner - this one appears to be something like plywood. I'm not sure those door panels are the original type, either. Here is the view of the cargo area and headliner from the '54 New Yorker I owned. Edited October 1, 2020 by Dosmo (see edit history)

suchan
Door panels and headliner are cut from plywood. I did the same to a van in the '80's. Very cool car, but needing some work. I agree asking price isn't a bargain.

John_S_in_Penna
As interiors go, this one is certainly distinctive, if not correct. Husband (owner): "The original interior is looking bad. Honey, can you sew some new seat covers for the car?" Wife: "Sure. Let's use the material from these lawn chairs left over from the 1970's!" The 55er
First of all this is a 1954 DeSoto & not a 1953. I don't think there should be ANY wood inside except for the rear cargo area between the back seat & the tailgate. I view this as more of a backyard custom creation and not a restored car, wrong hubcaps, the grille is missing most of its teeth and there's a 1962 Galaxie grille emblem on the front of the hood. Little green shamrock stickers under the taillights are covering the holes for the missing trim. Just an old car needing work, loose wires wrapped around the steering column, ugly seats, might be a fun ride for someone but if it hasn't sold in 6 months the price is probably too high. 1
