1949 Roadmaster light switch

I have to remove the light switch since I do not have any panel lights.  Evidently the variable rheostat has open up or something.  How big of a job is it?  Are there any easier ways to do it.  Can any of you give me any tips before I tear into it.  What holds it in place etc.

There's a small button on the switch, behind the dash panel, about 3/8" in diameter, spring-loaded. You have to crawl up under the dash, feel the switch and its electrical connections, and you will find the little round button. Push the button in with all of your strength, and pull the switch knob out from the dash as you are pushing the button. Once you have the knob completely pulled out of the dashboard, I can't remember if there is a slot for a screwdriver to unscrew the fitting that holds everything in place--there usually is and you have to use a very large straight-bladed screw driver to unscrew it, or two small screwdrivers working in opposite directions to unscrew the hold-down fitting.
