I see he's asking $13,950.  That's probably not too bad,

and well within the realm of a negotiated final settlement.

I had a '73 Eldorado convertible for several years.

I like the graceful one-year-only taillights.

In addition to a buyer watching out for typical body rust

in a New York-sourced car, I note the following:

The rubber bumper strips have steel embedded in them.

The steel will corrode, leaving the rubber strip wavy.

I see this waviness in the horizontal strip on the

rear bumper.

Also note:  6 miles per gallon for in-town driving,

10 on the highway--for a consistent average of 8 m.p.g.!

That's my experience, and a reviewer in Consumer Guide

in 1973 got the same overall average.  That means

high gasoline costs, but a buyer can probably live

with that when it's not his regular car!

One time in the Hershey car corral, a '73 Eldorado

was for sale.  The owner claimed that he got

17 miles per gallon on his way to Hershey!

Either he didn't know how to calculate gas mileage

properly, or he was greatly exaggerating in order

to make the mileage seem more palatable.

With my specific knowledge, I called his bluff.

He was red-faced and unhappy.  So maybe his

error wasn't made accidentally, but intentionally--

in other words, a lie!

My '71 Eldo' convertible got around 12-13 at steady highway speed, +/- 80 mph. '71 was the only year Cadillac used a long duration camshaft in this first year of the low compression 472s and 500s. Great freeway flyers. I would think the coupes could get a little better gas mileage.    -    Carl

P.S. After boring it .050 over, (514 cu in), decompressing it to 7.0 : 1, a little port work and a R.V. grind on the bumps, it got over 10 mpg at 100 mph on the then "free" Mexican 70-something octane gasoline. This with 12 degrees advance at sea level with temperature at 90+. That was the design objective, and we achieved it on 33" BF Goodrich All Terrain T/As. Fun stuff almost 40 years ago ! I still have the monstrous thing. 'Bout time to light it off again and blow some minds.   -  CC

Thanks for the data, Carl.  Since the 1971's had

less mileage-reducing smog equipment, I have

always thought that the 1971's would be the best

year for gas mileage.  You just answered my

long-thought question!

And at lesser highway speeds, such as 60,

the car should do even better than 12-13 m.p.g.

I currently have a 1974 Eldorado coupe, but have

not yet measured its gas mileage.

Not a bad asking price. Looks clean. Interior isn't too bad considering the age and mileage. Regarding gas "economy", I got 12 mpg on the highway at near-legal speeds in my '71, 6 mpg (at best) if I put my foot in it. Watch that gas gauge dance!

Prospective buyers should expect all the systems are working for that price. Climate control, in particular, can be a major PITA.
